Bluetooth technology is a wireless short-range communications technology which was launched to replace the cables connecting portable/ fixed devices. The vital features of Bluetooth technology are robustness, low power and low cost, no cable connections and automatic, inexpensive & high security. The Bluetooth specification defines a uniform structure for an extensive choice of devices to connect and communicate with each other.Â
Bluetooth” was named after a Danish Viking and King, Harald Blatand (translated as Bluetooth in English), who lived in the latter part of the 10th century uniting & controlling Denmark and Norway. Since he united two kingdoms, the inspiration is taken from here: uniting the devices. Old Harald used to like Blueberries & hence had stained teeth. It’s assumed that the name “Bluetooth” is derived from here.Â

Bluetooth removes the user intervention and transmits power extremely low to save battery power. As mentioned earlier, Bluetooth chip is a wireless technology that replaces cables by taking the information that are usually carried by cable, and transmitting it at a special frequency to a receiver Bluetooth chip, which will then pass the information received to the computer, phone etc.
Bluetooth technology has achieved world wide acceptance.  Using Bluetooth enabled device one can connect to almost everywhere in the world in proximity. Bluetooth enabled electronic wireless devices are also used to connect and communicate ad hoc networks known as piconets. Each device is enabled to communicate with up to seven other devices at the same time within a single piconet.  Simultaneously, each device can also belong to several piconets. Piconets are established automatically and dynamically as Bluetooth enabled devices enter and leave radio proximity. The power of this technology enables to handle both data & voice transmissions. Following are the various solutions enjoyed by the users using Bluetooth technology: hands-free headset for voice calls, printing and fax, synchronizing PDA, laptop, and mobile phone applications, to identify when a truck would drive into the storage depot, a headset that communicates with a mobile phone even in the other room etc.

Bluetooth wireless headset provides a more convenient, hands-free way to use your cell phone. They’re especially useful when you don’t have a hand available to hold your phone. And with the wireless signal, you can actually move a few feet away from your cell phone and still keep access to it. Bluetooth technology is everywhere. More and more cell phones and MP3 players will support Bluetooth wireless headsets. Also, many states now ban drivers from using hand held phones, but allow hands-free calls

How to operate Bluetooth Wireless Headset:

Step 1:Â Charge your Bluetooth headset.

Step 2: Turn on your cell phone. If you’re not sure whether your phone is Bluetooth-compatible, check the Match Devices website under Resources.

Step 3: Turn on the Bluetooth wireless headset by pressing the power button on the side.

Step 4: Check for an icon (usually a triangle) on your cell phone screen. This shows that your cell phone is picking up the signal from your Bluetooth wireless headset. If it isn’t, go to the Menu on your phone. Scroll to the Connections menu. Click on Bluetooth, and then click Find Bluetooth. Once your Bluetooth wireless headset appears on the menu, click Connect, and then click OK.

Step 5: Place the Bluetooth wireless headset earpiece in your ear. Most models have a hook of sorts that wraps behind your ear. The large section with buttons is the earpiece.

Step 6: Press the call button on the front of the earpiece to make or receive calls, and to hang up. Pressing this button answers your cell phone when it rings. If you press it to make a call, the device will prompt you for the name of whoever you want to call. Speak the name. The device will then repeat the name. Say “Yes” or “No” to place or cancel the call

Bluetooth stereo headphones and Bluetooth stereo headsets allow you to wirelessly listen to digital-quality music with your computer, MP3 player, home stereo, cellular phone, or any other device that supports Bluetooth stereo audio.

Bluetooth stereo audio is one of the fastest growing Bluetooth applications and the second largest overall application in the Bluetooth arsenal, just behind hands free communication for cellular phones. As a result, Bluetooth stereo headphones and Bluetooth stereo headsets have become extremely popular among manufacturers and users alike

Benefits of Bluetooth Stereo:

Wireless Streaming of Digital Audio

Bluetooth devices using the A2DP Bluetooth Profile (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile) offer stereo quality audio which can be streamed wirelessly from a media source to the headset / headphones.Â

Convenience

The convenience of wireless Bluetooth stereo audio is incredible. You can walk around your home with your Bluetooth stereo headphones and not have to worry about carrying your iPod or MP3 player around with you. You also won’t have an annoying wire dangling around your neck. You can stream music from your laptop, PC, TV, DVD player, home stereo, or MP3 player.

You will also find them very useful while exercising or for any other activity which requires increased motion. We have all seen people who have iPods strapped to their arms with a pair of wired headphones dangling in their faces. Looks rather annoying, doesn’t it? Next time you are at the gym, take a look around and see how many people actually spend more time messing with their headphones than they do working out. With Bluetooth stereo headphones or a Bluetooth stereo headset, just keep your iPod / MP3 player within range of where you are and you can continue to comfortably workout. Most Bluetooth stereo headphones and Bluetooth stereo headsets offer a range of up to 30 ft. Some of the newer models, using the latest Bluetooth technology, have an extended range of over 60 ft.

CD Sound Quality

When most people think of wireless audio, they usually think sound quality will be compromised. Surprisingly, sound quality is exceptional with most Bluetooth stereo headphones / headsets. It is very comparable to high-fidelity, digital CD quality. In most cases, the sound quality is as good as if it were coming from a pair of wired headphones.

If you have a Bluetooth adapter for your PC or another non-Bluetooth enabled device, you will need to install Bluetooth software to be sure it works properly. Bluetooth software is easy to install, and as long as you have the corresponding hardware, you will be one step closer to having your personal Bluetooth network up and running from your computer.Â

Bluetooth is a low-power, wireless standard that allows for many Bluetooth-enabled devices to communicate at short ranges. These devices include cell phones, MP3 players, printers and digital cameras, to name a few. Most desktop computers and many notebook or laptop computers are not equipped with Bluetooth from the factory, but adding this capability is reasonably inexpensive should you require it.Â

Steps to install Bluetooth Software:

Step 1- Plug your Bluetooth device into your computer’s USB port. You will need your device in place when you install the Bluetooth software so that the hardware and software registry can form necessary links.

Step 2 -Insert the Bluetooth software CD into your computer’s CD drive. If an installation window does not automatically pop up, go to the “My computer” section of your computer and click on the CD icon. You may need to look for a file called Setup.exe.

Step 3 – Follow the prompts to install the Bluetooth software. You will have to identify yourself and will probably have to type in a registry key from the box that the Bluetooth software came in. You will also have to select a folder on your computer to house the new program; the default is usually OK.

Step 4 – Wait for all the necessary components to finish installing. Once done, click the finish button and then restart your computer. Once your computer has been rebooted, launch the Bluetooth software and ensure that it is working properly with your Bluetooth device.Â

Definition

A Bluetooth Dongle adapter is a Bluetooth adapter that connects to your computer via USB port. Bluetooth Dongle is different from other Bluetooth adapters that can be installed inside your computer, and as such, enjoys much greater popularity than other, more expensive and less user-friendly Bluetooth adapters.

Installation

Installing your Bluetooth dongle adapter is very easy. Simply plug the adapter into an unused USB port–where you won’t mind it staying–and then insert the Installation CD that came bundled with the dongle adapter to download all drivers and software necessary for the Bluetooth devices to run correctly. Once everything has been installed, simply restart your computer and your Bluetooth dongle adapter will be fully installed and operational.

Using your Adapter

To get the most out of your Bluetooth dongle adapter you will need to sync it with Bluetooth peripherals. As mentioned previously, this could be anything from keyboards to headsets and even video game controllers. To sync your devices with the Bluetooth adapter, simply put the Bluetooth dongle adapter in sync mode via the desktop software you installed previously (see your owner’s manual for more on this) and then put the peripheral in sync mode as well. Once these devices “find each other” they will be able to work together in your Bluetooth personal area network. These devices can each be managed individually using your Bluetooth software, so if you need to make changes or set preferences, you can do that by starting up the software from the start menu.

Troubleshooting

Bluetooth dongle adapters are very user-friendly, but that doesn’t mean that some have not experienced problems with them. One very common problem is the USB port specifications. If you have an older computer (manufactured before 2006) you will need to find out if your computer has USB 2.0 ports and where. Since Bluetooth is a high-speed networking tool, it needs the faster 2.0 speed in order to function correctly. Another common issue consumers have with Bluetooth dongle adapters is getting them to sync correctly with peripherals. Syncing your peripherals is more art than science, and you’ll have to engage the sync mode on both the adapter and the peripheral at exactly the right time in order for them to discover one another and form a network linkÂ

Since Bluetooth uses low power signals, the technology only uses low energy, lessening battery consumption or electrical power. Bluetooth wireless technology is also included in less obvious more obscure, peripheral applications.  It serves as a trusted wireless connection in critical medical devices such as Nonin Medical’s pulse oximetry system.  Bluetooth technology is used to scan bar codes with the Baracoda Pencil and keep UPS logistics running smoothly across the globe.Â

Bluetooth earpiece is designed to allow hands-free talking and calling on cell phones and PDAs. Many devices including laptops, phones, and gaming systems recognize Bluetooth-equipped technology and can be used in conjunction with a Bluetooth earpiece. One of the main functions of the Bluetooth earpiece is the ability to not only answer, but make, outgoing phone calls.

Bluetooth headsets are great for an easy, wireless conversation with anyone on your cell phone. Use it to keep your hands free for washing the dishes, doing laundry, walking around the mall or driving in your car. They are also compatible now to use with your home or office computer

How to connect a Bluetooth Earpiece:Â

Step 1- Put your Bluetooth Earpiece device in discovery mode. Most Bluetooth-enabled cell phones, PDAs and computers have a separate Bluetooth utility (generally found in a settings or options area that manages Bluetooth connections). Once you find this utility, look for an icon or link that says, “Find Bluetooth device” or “Enable discovery mode.”

Step 2 – Activate your Bluetooth earpiece. Most Bluetooth headsets can be activated by pressing the blue “Call” icon twice. However, if you have a premium Bluetooth Earpiece (like a Jabra or Jawbone) then you may need to follow a different activation procedure. See your owner’s manual for more on this.

Step 3 – Allow a connection to be formed. One your device find your Bluetooth earpiece, it will ask you if you want to form a link between the two. Simply click “Yes” or “OK” to link your Bluetooth earpiece to your device.

Step 4 – Test your connection. If you are using a computer or a phone, the easiest way to do this is to initiate a chat or phone call and see if you can interact with the other party. If you are using your Bluetooth earpiece with a PDA, try performing some basic functions with the earpiece.Â

Bluetooth wireless technology is wireless connection within short distances that enables electronic devices to be connected for the transfer and sharing of data as well as voice signals. Bluetooth technology is powerful and relatively inexpensive, which means that it has become very popular among computer-savvy people. Learn the fundamentals of what Bluetooth wireless technology is, and explore how you can utilize this useful method of connecting wirelessly.

Bluetooth was released in 1998 with the planned purpose of replacing wired technology in data and voice transfers. The people who developed Bluetooth technology initially named it “Bluetooth” as a secret code, but the name held over time. Bluetooth inventors want to establish a universal language recognized by all electronic devices.

Bluetooth Wireless technology operates on a frequency that is the same as cordless telephones, WiFi and other wireless electronic devices. Devices enabled with Bluetooth capabilities must be configured to understand specific Bluetooth profiles of other devices in order to connect to each other.

Bluetooth has become a wireless standard. More devices will be modified to use this technology, and manufacturers will be looking for new ways to make their products Bluetooth compatible

The market for Bluetooth input devices will continue to expand. Innovative new use cases are under development, such as a two-way remote control where consumers can view the TV on the remote device and the television screen. These types of use cases will expand scenarios for Bluetooth input devices into the digital home environment and other areas that require more power. Â

The SIG recently launched the Experience Icon Program to guide and help consumers purchase interoperable products implementing Bluetooth wireless technology. Products containing the Input icon contain the Human Interface Device Profile (HID), which allows for complete interoperability among a range of devices. When consumers and retailers see the Input icon (below), they will know at a glance that the device in question wirelessly connects mice, keyboards, game controllers and other input/output devices to computers, PDA’s and game consoles.Â
